How to Collect Reviews and Testimonials in Your App

Reviews from real clients are one of the most persuasive things a prospective member can see. There are a few ways to collect them, and all of them start with a form you build in Movement.

Step 1: Create your review form

  1. In the builder, open Forms in the left-hand menu under Engage.

  2. Create a new form for the program, course, or experience you want reviews for.

  3. Use the Form Builder tab to add your questions.

Ask specific questions instead of "leave us a review." An open request like "give us feedback" usually gets a one-line answer. Specific questions get you several usable quotes from each person.

Suggested questions:

  • What was going on for you before you started this program?

  • What made you decide to join?

  • What has changed since you started, big or small?

  • What was your favorite part?

  • Who would you recommend this to?

  • What would you tell someone who's on the fence about joining?

  • Can we share your answers in our app and marketing? (Yes / No)

You don't need all of these. Four or five is plenty, and shorter forms get more responses.

Step 2: Get the form in front of clients

Inside the app: Add a button at the end of a program or course that links to your form. People are most likely to respond right after they finish, while the results are fresh.

With a push notification: Send a push campaign with the Trigger Form action, so tapping the notification opens your review form. You can send it to all members or to a specific group, like people who finished a certain program. See Push Campaigns and Member Segments for setup. This works especially well around a moment like your business's anniversary: "We're turning 1! Tell us what the past year has meant to you and we'll send you a thank-you gift."

Push notifications only reach members who have them turned on, so check how many that is before you rely on this method. If you offer an incentive, you'll need to deliver it yourself.

By email: Send clients a link to the form after they've been with you for a set amount of time, like 30, 60, or 90 days. Movement doesn't send these emails, so you'll need your own email tool.

Using more than one of these gets you the most responses, since each reaches a slightly different group of clients.

Step 3: Add reviews to your program page

Responses don't flow into your pages automatically. Open your form, go to the Submissions tab, and choose the best responses. Check that the client said yes to sharing, then add them manually to a review layout block.

Place that block on the program's homepage. Visitors then see reviews from clients who completed that exact program, which is more convincing than a general testimonials section.

Fun ways to use your reviews ✨

Once you have a few good quotes, put them to work:

  • Sales and landing pages. Put a strong quote right next to your buy button, where people are deciding.

  • Instagram carousels and Stories. Turn a quote into a graphic. Each question on your form can give you a different post, such as a "before" quote, a "what changed" quote, and a "who I'd recommend this to" quote.

  • Welcome and onboarding pages. Show new members what other clients got out of the program, so they start with confidence.

  • Email subject lines and intros. A client's own words ("I finally feel like myself again") often beat anything you'd write yourself.

  • Your link in bio page. A single standout review above your links helps people who've just discovered you.

  • Push notifications. Occasionally share a client win as a notification to keep members motivated.

  • Before-and-after stories. Pair a client's "before" answer with their "after" answer for a full story in two lines.

Always credit a client the way they said they're comfortable with, whether that's full name, first name, or initials.
