The new ‘Habits’ content type comes with ready-to-use Habit templates, personalised form prompts, and automated progress tracking, designed to accelerate your community's journey towards achieving their goals.
How to add a Habit to your app:
To get started, click on the [+Create New] button at the top of the white lefthand sidebar, then hit the [+Add Content Type] button.
An ‘Add Content Type’ menu will appear with a list of prebuilt content types you can choose from. Click on ‘🔁 Habit’.
This will add the ‘Habit’ content type to your app. Hit the purple ‘Create Habit’ button.
You will be dropped into the ‘Habits’ section of our template library. From here, select one of our 5 prebuilt (and fully customisable) Habit templates.
Once you’ve selected the template you want, click on the ‘Use this template’ button, give your Habit a Title, then hit ‘Create Habit’.
You will be dropped into the page builder where you can start customising the habit.
Habit templates are made up of pages that contain a form submission block, a start (join) action, and are scheduled. To start customising your Habit page, update the imagery and text from the template with whatever you like. In this example, we will customise the prebuilt ‘Daily Exercise’ habit to make it into a 28 day Hydration Challenge.
Updating the Form Submission Block:
Once you’ve updated the imagery and text to make it relevant to your habit, the next thing you’ll need to do is update the form in the Form Submissions block. To do this, click on the Form Submissions block, and then remove the form that came with the Habit template by clicking the small ‘X’.
Click the [+Add Form] button, and choose which form you’d like your member’s to fill out every time they log the habit.
In this example, we have created a Water Tracker form that member’s will fill out for each day of the 28 day hydration challenge. If you need a refresher on creating forms to use in your Habits, check out our Forms article here.
This is what the form will look like for the user each time they go to log the habit:
Once a member submits a habit once, the Form submission block will be populated with this submission, and all future submissions of this habit, allowing them to keep a record of the habit and track their progress and consistency over time.
Updating the Action:
Once you’ve added your custom Form to the form submission block, the next thing you’ll need to do is update the Text, Post Join, and Form in the ‘Action’ section.
Replace the ‘Join Habit’ text with whatever you’d like your member’s to see on the button when they go to sign up for the habit.
The ‘Post Join’ text is the text that will show on the button each time they go to log their habit.
In the ‘Then’ Section, remove the Form that came with the Habit template and replace it with the same Form you did in the Form Submissions block.
Its very important you don’t remove the ‘Join Habit’ action, as this is what will allow a member to sign up for the habit, and have it added to their schedule.
Scheduling your Habit:
The last thing you’ll need to configure is your Habit’s scheduling. All of the Habit Templates Schedule’s are set to ’Relative days’, so that your member’s can start the Habit straight away, or select their own start date. When the Schedule is set to ‘Relative days’ the duration of your habit will be the number of days in the ‘Schedule’ tab.
💡 Note: You can also choose to set a Habit’s scheduling to ‘Calendar days’. This will remove the ability for member’s to select their own start date, and the Habit will begin on the selected date. This could be useful if you’d like to run a challenge where all of your app’s members, or a specific group of members, start a habit at the same time.
Once a member has started a Habit, or set their own start date, the habit will populate their in-app calendar for the duration of the habit.
Habit Notifications:
Members will receive reminders to log their Habits at different intervals (depending on their notification preferences). If they opt in, they will be reminded when the time to log their habit is upcoming, and when its time to log their habit.
These reminders will come in the form if Push Notifications if they have enabled them, and will fall back to email for non-push enabled members. Your members can update their notification preferences directly from the app by navigating to their account account page and clicking on ‘Notifications’.
