How Content Is Structured in Movement

Getting your content set up in the right order saves you rebuilding work later. Here's how the pieces fit together.

The content hierarchy

Fitness: Exercises → Workouts → Programs or Courses

Nutrition: Recipes → Meal Plans

Build from the inside out. Create your individual exercises or recipes first, then group them into workouts, then group those into programs or courses.

You can build a workout directly inside a program, but that workout becomes native to that program only — it won't appear in the Workouts section of Content and can't be added to any other program. If there's any chance you'll reuse a workout elsewhere, or want it to show up when searching your content, build it under Content first, then add it to the program.

Programs and Courses are the same content type — it's just a naming choice, so use whichever term fits how you talk to your members. They're built the same way structurally. Recipes are also sometimes called Meals for the same reason — same content type, just a naming preference.

Build content before you build pages

It's tempting to jump straight into building a page and adding things directly on it. Don't — build your content first, in the Content section, and add it to pages afterward. Remember, from the inside out.

Content built this way is reusable: the same workout can live inside multiple programs, the same recipe in multiple meal plans, without rebuilding it each time. Content added straight onto a page is stuck there.

Use dynamic content instead of manually adding pages

Once your content is built, don't manually add each workout or recipe to a page one at a time. Use dynamic content instead — it automatically pulls in content based on criteria you set, so when you add something new that matches, it shows up on the page without any manual work.

For dynamic content to pull in the right pieces, tagging matters. Tags are what dynamic content actually filters on, so make sure your exercises, workouts, recipes, and programs are tagged consistently as you build them — untagged or inconsistently tagged content won't show up where you expect it to.
