You can enable a sleek desktop navigation bar, control the sidebar navigation visibility, and even hide navigation entirely on different pages—all while keeping your mobile experience perfectly optimized.

What's New with Desktop Navigation?

Key controls to improve the desktop experience:

  1. Horizontal Navigation Bar – Website-style navigation across the top of desktop screens

  2. Navigation Visibility Per Page – Hide navigation on specific pages for focused experiences

  3. Sidebar Navigation Toggle – Show or hide sidebar navigation on any page (courses, programs, or single pages)

Important: All desktop navigation settings apply ONLY to desktop screens. Your mobile experience remains unchanged.

1: Desktop Navigation Bar

What It Does

Enables a clean, horizontal navigation bar that displays across the top of your app on desktop screens, creating a more traditional website feel.

How to Enable It

  1. Go to the page you want to update in your Movement admin

  2. Navigate to the Navigation section in the right-hand sidebar

  3. Switch the Position toggle to "Topbar" from your Desktop navigation settings

  4. Preview your app in desktop view to see the change

Why Use It?

  • Makes better use of wide desktop screen space

  • Provides a more familiar browsing experience for desktop users

  • Creates a cleaner, more professional header

  • Feels more "website-like" vs. "app-like"

Best Practices

✅ Ensure navigation labels are concise (1-2 words when possible)

✅ Test with your logo—make sure everything fits comfortably

✅ Preview on different desktop screen sizes

⚠️ Avoid if:

  • Your navigation labels are very long

  • You prefer a more app-like mobile-first feel across all devices

2: Navigation Visibility Per Page

What It Does

Gives you the ability to hide navigation completely on specific pages, creating distraction-free, focused experiences.

Why Use It?

Perfect for pages where you want visitors focused on a single action or outcome:

  • Sales pages (keep focus on the offer)

  • Landing pages (drive toward one CTA)

  • Lead capture pages (minimize exit opportunities)

  • Webinar registration pages

  • Free download/opt-in pages

How to Hide Navigation on a Page

  1. Open the page you want to edit in the page builder

  2. Look for "Navigation" (in the righthand sidebar menu when you’re on any page)

  3. Click "Hide Navigation" to hide all navigation

  4. Save & Publish

  5. Preview to confirm navigation is hidden

When to Hide Navigation

✅ DO hide navigation when:

  • You have one clear call-to-action (buy, register, download)

  • You're running paid traffic to a landing page

  • You want to minimize distractions and exits

  • You're creating a funnel or multi-step process

  • The page serves a specific conversion goal

❌ DON'T hide navigation when:

  • It's a blog post or informational content (people need to explore)

  • It's your homepage (unless it's specifically designed as a landing page)

  • Users need to navigate to other parts of your app

  • You're building trust through exploration (like an "About" page)

Pro Tips

💡 Combine with other features: Use hidden navigation + Layout Blocks for powerful landing pages

💡 Test conversion rates: Try A/B testing pages with and without navigation to see impact on conversions

💡 Mobile consideration: Navigation hiding applies to mobile too—make sure you have a clear path forward on small screens

3: Sidebar Navigation Toggle

What It Does

Allows you to show or hide the sidebar navigation on any page in your app. This gives you complete control over the layout and focus of every page type.

Why Use It?

Different pages benefit from different layouts:

  • Course/program pages → show sidebar for immersive learning and progress tracking

  • Sales pages → Hide sidebar to eliminate distractions

  • Landing pages → Hide sidebar for focused conversion

  • Resource pages → Show sidebar for easy navigation between related content

  • Blog/article pages → Show sidebar for related posts or categories

How to Toggle the Sidebar Nav on Any Page

  1. Navigate to the page you want to edit

  2. Open Navigation from the menu on the righthand side (below Tags & Settings)

  3. Find the "Position" within ‘Desktop’ settings

  4. Toggle Sidebar

  5. Save and preview the page

When to Hide the Sidebar Navigation

✅ Hide sidebar navigation for:

Sales & Marketing Pages:

  • Landing pages with a single call-to-action

  • Sales pages promoting a specific offer

  • Lead magnet or opt-in pages

  • Checkout or payment pages

Content Pages:

  • Long-form articles or blog posts (remove distraction)

  • Focused reading experiences

  • Standalone pages that don't need navigation context

✅ Show sidebar for:

Course/Learning Pages:

  • Text-heavy courses with lots of lessons

  • Self-paced courses where students should jump around

  • Reference material or resource libraries

  • Courses with downloadable assets per lesson

  • Complex courses with multiple modules and sub-lessons

Content & Community Pages:

  • Blog archives (show categories/recent posts)

  • Resource libraries (show content organization)

  • Help/documentation pages (show table of contents)

  • Community sections (show navigation between forums/groups)

General Navigation Pages:

  • Pages where sidebar provides helpful context

  • Multi-page sections where users need to navigate between related pages

  • Category or archive pages

Best Practices

✅ Consider the page's primary goal (focus vs. exploration)

✅ Preview both desktop and mobile with sidebar on/off

✅ Match sidebar visibility to page content type and user intent

✅ Test with actual users—ask for feedback

✅ Be consistent within similar page types (all blog posts, all courses, etc.)

✅ Remember: hiding sidebar gives content more breathing room
