Apple and Google Authentication

Updated over 3 months ago

Enabling Apple and Google authentication in your app allows members to bypass the traditional sign-up and log-in flow, making the process of joining your app seamless.

Enabling Apple and Google Auth in your app

  1. Navigate to your Global App Settings by clicking the cog wheel ‘⚙️’ in the top left next to your app name.

  2. Scroll down to and expand the ‘Access’ section.

  3. Under the ‘Social Sign In’ heading, you will see toggles for Apple ID and Google.

💡 Note: These Social Sign In options will be toggled on by default for new Movement apps created after April 30 2024.

4. Once you toggle these on, new members will be able to sign up for your app using their Apple ID or Google account.

5. Existing members will be prompted to link their Movement account to their Apple or Google ID if they log in with an email they have previously created an account with.

Benefits of Social Sign In

  1. Improved Conversion Rate:

Integrating Google and Apple authentication allows members to bypass the traditional email based sign-up flow, making the sign-up and login process into the app much quicker and more streamlined.

This improved user experience leads to higher conversion rates, as potential members are less likely to abandon the registration process due to having to type out their email & password each time.

  2. Enhanced Security

Integrating Google and Apple authentication in your app can enhance security, including the added benefit of built-in two-factor authentication (2FA). Apple and Google support biometric options such as Face ID and fingerprint scanning, which adds an extra layer of security. This use of biometrics not only adds security to the login process but also streamlines user experience, allowing quick and secure access with just a glance or a touch.

Apple ID Email Privacy

If a member opts to hide their email via Apple sign-in, Movement receives a private relay email instead of the member’s actual Apple ID email. To send emails to these addresses, Movement must verify and configure the sending domains. Emails sent to these private addresses via external marketing tools like Mailchimp or Flodesk may bounce, in line with Apple's privacy requirements. However, essential notifications from the Movement platform are reliably delivered.

💡 Note: If necessary, you can disable the Apple Sign On feature in App Settings > Access > Social Sign On > Apple ID.

We recommend keeping Apple authentication enabled., as it provides a seamless user experience for your members, resulting in more members in your app, at the expense of a few members not being reachable via third party email service providers

Google Authentication Domain Notice

During Google Authentication, members may see a reference to “movement.so” in small letters. This text appears because Google's authentication process requires us to use a whitelisted domain, specifically ‘auth.movement.so’, from which Google extracts and displays "movement.so." This cannot be altered due to technical constraints related to domain verification.

💡 Note: If the display of "movement.so" is a concern, you have the option to disable Google Authentication in App Settings > Access > Social Sign On > Google.

We recommend keeping Google Authentication enabled due to its significant positive impact on member sign-up conversion and login efficiency.

FAQ

Why does auth.movement.so appear?

Due to technical limitations and restrictions from Apple and Google on the number of domains that can be whitelisted, it's impractical to verify each subdomain and custom domain used by Movement apps. This requires us to use a single, secure domain, auth.movement.so, to manage authentication processes efficiently.

We do our best to maintain a consistent, branded experience for your Members, by showcasing your App Icon and Name prominently where possible.

We highly recommend keeping both Google & Apple ID options enabled for your app due to significantly improved sign up rates due to the seamless, one-click authentication experience, however if these options don’t work for you for any reason you may turn them off from App Settings > Access > Social Sign On.
