What Are Order Bumps?

Order Bumps are additional products that can be displayed during the checkout flow, directly above the payment form. They serve as an upsell opportunity, giving your customers the chance to add related or complementary products to their cart with just a click.

For example, if you’re selling a product that unlocks access to a fitness program, you could offer a product that unlocks access to your nutrition guides as an order bump during checkout. These order bumps are fully customisable, allowing you to add optional descriptions and discounts for each product option.

Key Features

  • Positioning: Order bumps are displayed above the payment form during the checkout.

  • Customisable: You can add descriptions and (optional) discounts to encourage more conversions.

  • Multiple Products: If you add multiple order bumps to a product, they’ll be displayed neatly as a list in the checkout flow.

How to Add an Order Bump

  1. Navigate to the Sell tab and click on the product you’d like to add an order bump to.

  2. Click on the Product Details tab

  3. You’ll notice a new ‘Order-Bumps’ section on the right-hand side.

  4. In the new "Order Bumps" section, hit [+Add Product] and you can select other products you want to display as upsell options during checkout.

  5. For each product added to an order bump, you can optionally add:

  • A description of the product.

  • An optional discount to make the offer more enticing.

    6. Save Your Changes: Once you’ve configured your order bumps, hit the ‘Save Product’ button and your changes will automatically appear in your checkout flow whenever a customer goes to purchase the parent product.

💰💱 Its important to note that all products included in the order bump must be in the same currency as the parent product that you’re adding the order bump to 💱💰

How Order Bumps appear to customers

When a customer is going through the checkout process, they’ll see the order bump above the payment form. If multiple order bumps are added, they will be shown as a list. Customers can select any of these products, and their final order total will update accordingly.

Here’s how it looks in practice:

  1. Single Order Bump:

2. Multiple Order Bumps:

Enhanced Checkout UI

To complement the Order Bumps feature, we’ve updated the Checkout UI to make the experience cleaner and more intuitive, especially on smaller screens. The payment form now appears higher up, and there’s a dropdown showing a clear breakdown of the order, including any selected order bumps. You can now also attach thumbnail images for your products in the ‘Details’ tab.

Heres an example of the new checkout UI with an order bump and a product thumbnail image:

Benefits of Using Order Bumps

  • Increase Revenue: You can now offer additional products without disrupting the checkout flow.

  • Seamless Experience: The customer can easily add complementary products with a single click.

  • Custom Discounts and Descriptions: Encourage customers to take advantage of special pricing on related products.

Best Practices for Order Bumps

  • Relevancy is Key: Make sure the products offered as order bumps complement the primary product. Irrelevant bumps may lead to confusion or frustration.

  • Use Discounts Strategically: Offering a small discount on an order bump can be a strong incentive for customers to add it to their purchase.

  • Clear Descriptions: Keep the description concise but informative. Highlight the benefits of adding the product to their purchase.

  • Single Currency: Make sure that all products included in the order bump are in the same currency as the parent product that you’re adding the order bump to
